Park Avenue Improvements

Perkasie Borough is working on a plan to rehabilitate W. Park Avenue between Ridge Road and Jefferson Drive. This page is intended to provide updates and information on progress.

Planned improvements to Park Avenue will:

  • Improve vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian safety. The road design reflects an earlier era, lacking sidewalks, bike lanes or road marking that accommodate current safety standards. The improvement project will add sidewalks, curbing and ADA-compliant pedestrian crossings, adding retaining walls where needed to manage steep grade and erosion.
  • Mitigate flooding and stormwater damage. Stormwater systems adjacent to the roadway cannot handle extreme runoff volumes, causing issues with the road surface, erosion of steep grades and residential property damage. The project will upgrade the stormwater system with and adjacent to the roadway, directing storm flows away from private property and into new underground stormwater piping. The project also plans the replacement of an existing detention basin with an underground facility.
  • Link residents in northwest Perkasie and beyond to safe alternative transportation to the rich economic, cultural and recreational amenities in the center of town. The project will modernize the traffic signal equipment at the intersection of Park Avenue and Ridge Road and create an ADA-compliant crossing, forming the only pedestrian crossing on Ridge Road.
  • Complete a missing section of the historic Liberty Bell Trail in Perkasie Borough.

These improvements reflect observations gathered during site inspections, and feedback provided by Park Avenue and Parkridge Drive residents during Community Discussions in 2021 and 2022 and subsequent meetings.

Perkasie Borough had our engineers develop conceptual plans based on an examination of the site conditions and on discussions with our residents. These plans were used to support applications for federal and state funding to help with the Park Avenue project. The plans may change as the project is fully engineered.

The Park Avenue project is estimated to cost more than $3 million. Perkasie Borough worked with Congressman Fitzpatrick to secure almost $2.1 million in federal Congressionally Directed Funding. Perkasie Borough has also applied through the Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) for funding from the Pennsylvania Statewide Local Share Account (LSA) program. Perkasie Borough has also applied for funding for the Ridge/Park intersection signal modernization project from the PennDOT Green Light Go program. Perkasie Borough had previously applied for funding from PennDOT's Transportation Alternative Set Aside program, PennDOT's Multimodal Transportation Fund, and the Department of Community & Economic Development's Multimodal Transportation Fund, but those applications were unsuccessful.

Grant funding programs like the Local Share Account and Green Light Go are extremely competitiive. Perkasie Borough is ever grateful to our elected County and State officials for their support - these officials are always willing to write letters of support and advocate for Perkasie Borough's applications for funding. We encourage residents and business owners to communicate with elected officials to let them know how important the Park Avenue project is to you and to the Borough.
