Swim Lesson Sessions
Lessons are 40 minute classes offered Monday-Thursday for two weeks. Fridays are reserved for weather related make ups or Menlo cancellations. Please note make ups are not offered for participant sickness, cancellations, or no-shows.

AM Tot Splash Drop-in
Up to age 5 in the Toddler Pool | Monday - Thursday 9:00am-11:30am
The purpose of Tot Splash is to afford families with children up to the age of 5 open swim time in the Toddler Pool during scheduled swim lesson time. This is not an instructional class, but time for parents/adult caregivers to be in the Toddler Pool with younger children during swim lessons. Lifeguard will be on duty.
Price: Free to Members / Non-Members daily rate $10.00 / Non-Members weekly rate $40.00
Learn to Swim Group Lessons
Pre-Beginner (4+ years)
This class is an introduction to water skills for the new swimmer. Children will learn to: • practice breath control, learning how to blow air out of mouth and nose, • submerge their whole body under water, • float on their front and back independently, • push off the wall and streamline independently, and • be introduced to arm and leg action for crawl, backstroke & treading water.
Beginner I (4+ years)
This class provides the fundamental aquatic skills to begin crawl and backstroke. Children must be able to perform the skills of the Pre-Beginner class, and will learn to: • perform the crawl and backstroke kick using proper form, • perform the crawl and backstroke arm action using proper form, • be introduced to long axis of rotation during the stroke, • perform elementary backstroke, and • be introduced to treading water.
Beginner II (5+ years)
This class provides further stroke development for the crawl and backstroke. Children must be able to perform the skills of the Beginner I class, and will learn to: • glide on their front and back, • perform the long axis of rotation during the crawl and backstroke, • perform rotary breathing for crawl stroke, • tread water using scissor or rotary kick and sculling arm motions for one minute, • introduction to breaststroke, • swim crawl and backstroke across the width of the pool, and • perform a compact dive into deep water
Intermediate (5+ years)
This class provides stroke improvement for the crawl and backstroke, and introduces swimmers to breaststroke and butterfly strokes. Children must be able to perform the skills of the Beginner II class, and will learn to: • swim crawl and backstroke for 25 yards of the pool using proper form, • perform breaststroke and butterfly kick, • tread water using scissors, breaststroke or rotary kick and sculling arm motions for two minutes, • perform an open turn on front and back, pushing off in a streamlined position, and • perform a stride dive into deep water.
Private Sessions & Single Private Lessons
Private Sessions (4+ years, adults, and adaptive)
These are one on one private lessons following the time table as our group sessions (Monday-Thursday for two weeks). Lessons will be geared toward the individual swimmer’s needs.
Single Private Lessons (4+ years, adults, and adaptive)
These are once and done single lessons. Each lesson is 30 minutes and held Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sign up for one or as many as you'd like to assist with hard to learn or specialty skills.
Adaptive Aquatics (4+ years)
This class is designed for children who for any reason (physical, mental, emotional, or social) cannot meet the requirements of the regular lesson program and require individualized attention. This class is taught one on one with instructor. The skills for this class are determined by the needs of the individual. Please reach out to menloaquatics@perkasieborough.org for more information. Advanced and Specialty Programs
SCUBA (Age 10+ years & passed Deep Water Test)
This class includes 5 2-hour pool sessions and 4 open water certification dives. (Typically at Lake Hydra in Bethlehem). Students are expected to purchase their own mask, snorkel, fins and boots, at least before open water certification dives. This is mainly due to fit and comfort. The training staff will be glad to assist and also point you towards discounted gear. The use of regulators, buoyancy compensator (BCD), tanks and weights (and wetsuits when necessary) are included in the price of the class.
This class only covers the 10 hours of required pool instruction and the 4 open water certification dives. There is an additional academic portion to the course which is $180 to become PADI certified. (Registration and payment through PADI. Certification as a PADI Open Water Diver is a lifetime certification.

Diving (9+ years & Passed Deep Water Test)
To participate in diving lessons, children must have achieved at least the level of Intermediate I swimming class. Children will learn:
Diving I: Front approach with hurdle, back hurdle, forward dive, backward dive, and somersault.
Diving II: Five required dives and six optional dives with at least one dive in each of the following categories: • Forward • Reverse • Backward • Twisting • Inward
Lifeguard Readiness (11-14 years & Passed Deep Water Test)
This is an instructional class designed to introduce basic lifesaving skills and help prepare the student for a “Red Cross Advanced Life Saving” course. Children must be able to perform the skills of the Intermediate I class.
Water Games (9+ years & Passed Deep Water Test)
This class introduces the fundamentals and team play of a variety of water sports and games. Children must be able to perform the skills of the Intermediate I class.
Stroke & Turn (7+ years & Passed Deep Water Test)
Improve technique in all four competitive strokes, and develop competitive starts and turns. Children must be able to perform the skills of the intermediate 1 class. Stroke & Turn classes will be offered to swim team participants and advanced swimmers (not on the swim team) who would like to improve their swim stroke, starts and turn technique.
Instructor Training
Swim and Dive Instructor Training (13+ years)
Learn the skills necessary to become a swimming and diving instructor for learn to swim lessons. Upon successful completion of the swim an dive instructor course, come students may be invited to volunteer in swim an dive lesson program for the remainder of the season. Participants must attend all days of the program.

Everybody Swims Program
Free Swim Lessons for Perkasie Borough Children
This program runs once per summer and are for Perkasie Borough children entering 2nd or 3rd grade in Fall 2024. Menlo membership is NOT required. Classes are for Beginner level only. This class provides the fundamental aquatic skills to begin crawl and backstroke. Children must be able to perform the skills of the Pre-Beginner class, and will learn to: • perform the crawl and backstroke kick using proper form, • perform the crawl and backstroke arm action using proper form, • be introduced to long axis of rotation during the stroke, • perform elementary backstroke, and • be introduced to treading water.
