Over the next few months, two vacant lots in the downtown are expected to be under construction. The American House at Perkasie will sit at the corner on an 8,446 square-foot lot. It will be hold a new three-story building, with 5,889 sq. ft. of retail on the first floor, and ten residential apartments on the second and third floors. This is the site of the former American House Hotel, which was destroyed by the great fire of 1988.
Later this summer, the adjoining property next to Emerald Carpet is expected to start construction. Formerly Lesher’s 5 & 10, this 6,211 sq. ft. lot will be home to another three story building. It will have 1,941 sq. ft. of retail on the first floor and six apartments on the second and third floors.
CHANGES TO PARKING IN THE DOWNTOWN
As the construction occurs, on-street parking near these properties will be limited. There will also be changes to the pedestrian access in this area for the safety of those traveling in the area. The contractors will work diligently to restore all on-street parking and sidewalks as quickly as possible. More parking is available on 7th Street towards the Borough Hall building, or in the public lot at 8th & Market Streets just across the railroad tracks.
